Meta AI (standalone app)

The standalone Meta AI app, launched in April 2025, is built around voice. Its home screen replaces an empty chat with an animated orb and three spoken starter options under 'Where should we start?'. Sign-in uses existing Facebook or Instagram accounts, and a Discover feed shows how other people prompt.

Notes

  • Meta's launch image shows the home screen with 'Where should we start?' and three voice starters: 'Let's get to know each other', 'Learn how to use AI', 'Talk about my goals', above a 'Talk or type…' bar with a live Stop control.
  • Meta says the app 'gets to know your preferences, remembers context', and can draw on Facebook and Instagram if they are linked in Accounts Center, so personalization comes from existing profiles rather than an onboarding quiz.
  • A Discover feed lets users 'share and explore how others are using AI', which works as a prompt-inspiration surface.
  • Decrypt's hands-on: sign in with a Facebook or Instagram account (or an email tied to other Meta accounts); the landing page offers tutorials on using AI and starting simple projects.
  • The app doubles as the companion app for Meta's AI glasses (the glasses battery indicator shows in the header).
